The Technology Services Department is dedicated to providing quality and efficient service to County departments and agencies so they may be better equipped to assist the citizens of Charleston County. The Department is made up of four divisions; Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Information Technology (IT), Radio and Telecommunications, and the Record Center.
The GIS Mapping Division maintains the County's GIS base maps and layers. Responsible for GIS interfaces with other County application systems and databases. Provides quality GIS products and insures the integrity of GIS maps and data inferences. GIS information is provided internally and externally through Intranet and Internet websites. Maps can be viewed online or purchased in the GIS office or by mail.
The IT Division works with the County's computer users to provide installation of computer software and hardware, programming, training, and support. Manages, secures and maintains the County's network that provides Internet, email, and data. Provides support for servers, desktops, laptops, telephones, audio visual systems, and the County website. Maintains computer inventory and software licenses and coordinates purchases of hardware and software for County departments.
The Radio and Telecommunications Division provides comprehensive communications support to Charleston County agencies and neighboring external agencies. One of main functions is management and technical support of the 800 MHz Public Safety Radio System, including nearly 6,000 radios deployed throughout the County. The Division provides maintenance and service for telephone systems, telephone trunk circuitry and dedicated data circuitry of departments and agencies within Charleston County facilities, as well as administration of all cellular phones and accounts for departments of Charleston County.
The Records Center Division develops records retention schedules for all County offices, oversees the legal destruction of obsolete records, and plans for the development of micrographics and automated systems. This division also trains all County offices in proper records management techniques.
