Board Of Zoning Appeals (BZA)
The Charleston County Board of Zoning Appeals consists of nine members appointed by Council. This Board hears and decides appeals where it is alleged there is error in order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the County's zoning ordinance. The Board hears and decides appeals for variance from the requirements of the zoning ordinance when strict application of the ordinance would result in unnecessary hardship. The Board also makes decisions regarding the permitting of uses by special exception subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the County's Zoning Ordinance.

Board of Zoning Appeals Public Hearing Information
The BZA's Annual Business meeting will be held Monday, March 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., in the Council Committee Room, 2nd Floor, Room B225, Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building, 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405. This meeting is open to the public and will be recorded. The purpose of this meeting is to elect officers and provide continuing education training for board members and staff. No other business will be conducted at this meeting.
The Charleston County BZA's Public Hearing will be held Monday, March 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., in Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, Room 249, Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building, 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405. This hearing is open to the public and will be recorded. The BZA public hearing will be livestreamed (for viewing only) at: Charleston County TV.
The meeting information will be available online at Engage Charleston County Portal one week prior to the meeting.
